Jim is an award-winning veteran of the newspaper business, having served in the roles of editor and reporter. He last served as Business Editor of The Olympian after covering business issues for a decade as a reporter for the Tacoma News Tribune.
Jim has covered a variety of business issues for daily newspapers in Sacramento and Albuquerque. His reporting also has appeared in the Seattle Times and the Puget Sound Business Journal. Jim’s background includes marketing and internal communications duties for an aerospace contractor based in Sacramento.
Jim’s assignments spanned well beyond business subjects to include covering crime, education, consumer issues and local government. His assignments ranged from investigations to major sporting events and natural disasters including being on scene to report about the San Francisco earthquake in the late 1980s.
At the retail association, Jim is responsible for helping to support lobbying on behalf of association policy initiatives, tracking proposed legislation as it affects member retailers, internal communications to members and amplifying the association’s external messages and issues to statewide and national media outlets and elected officials. He maintains the association Website and oversees video production.
Jim is a graduate of Syracuse University where he majored in Political Science and competed on the track team. He also earned a Master’s degree in Journalism at Marquette University where he reported for the school newspaper and began his professional writing career at The Milwaukee Journal.
