For the second consecutive year, Gov. Jay Inslee has announced September as Careers in Retail Month.
“With the holiday hiring outlook strong, it’s a great time for job seekers to consider joining the industry,” Inslee said. “Best of all, retailers increasingly offer programs to encourage their best employees to build long-range, satisfying careers in retail.”
WRA President/CEO Renée Sunde added that consumer confidence remains high, which is helping to keep unemployment at record lows statewide.
“Retailers are ready to hire a variety of job seekers, from career-oriented applicants to those looking to earn a few extra dollars for the holidays.”
In cooperation with the Employment Security Department, WRA has assembled a free website targeted to isolating retail job openings across the state. The site also enables employers to list openings for free and offers access to free screening of applicants by Employment Security personnel.
Retailers are expected to hire more than 10,900 workers this fall, a 21 percent increase over holiday hiring last year. An estimated 400,000 people work in retail across the state.
