What is your safety culture?
The culture of any company sets the tone for everything in the safety arena. In a positive safety culture, everything you do about safety is important. You may have heard the slogan “everyone goes home safe every day.” You may have another version, but the general theme is getting everyone to think about safety to ensure a safe work environment.
How do you get employees to think about safety all the time?
One way is to allow employees to participate and send a clear message that employee ideas are valued. Urge creativity and innovative solutions to solve hazards or processes that improve safety and increase productivity. Rules are not in place just to have rules but rather because accidents can lead to injury or death.
It’s also important for management to frequently emphasize safety. To build a true culture of safety, employees need to hear about it often and be committed to acting to ensure a safe workplace.

It’s a good idea to frequently consider: What have I done to promote a safety culture in my company or organization?
