Renée Sunde, WRA’s President/CEO, has sent a letter to U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao in support of terminal development projects at the ports of Seattle and Tacoma.
The Northwest Seaport Alliance is seeking federal financial assistance to update cargo facilities in Seattle and Tacoma.
In her letter, Sunde noted that retailers depend on both ports remaining competitive globally for imports and exports alike. She noted that retailers from throughout the state depend upon imports from overseas through the most convenient ports of Seattle and Tacoma. Remaining competitive with exports also will add trade-related jobs in the region to grow the economy. An estimated one in four jobs statewide are dependent on international trade.
As she put it in the letter: “As our economy goes, so goes retail.”
